Our History

In 1914 R.A. Symms came to Idaho from Kansas and planted 8 acres of fruit trees. He began hauling fresh garden vegetables along with milk & eggs to the nearby Silver City mining district near what is now Jordan Valley, OR., with a team & wagon. Eventually, the fruit trees began to bear and cherries, peaches, apples & pears were added to the cargo for the three day trip. His sons took over the wagon route allowing Mr. Symms to plant the rest of the 80 acre farm to fruit trees.

Historic Symms Fruit Ranch

Today 4 of R.A. Symms’ original trees are still producing and the 80 acre farm has grown into a 4500 acre diversified farm producing cherries, apples, peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, onions, potatoes, grain & cattle. Our products are distributed throughout the United States and exported to over 40 countries worldwide. The fourth generation of family management remains dedicated to the founding principles of quality, flavor and value.

Old TreeThis old tree is a perfect testimonial for Symms Fruit Ranch commitment to the land. The tree shown here along with 2 more apple trees and 1 pear tree are located on a piece of land we call “The Home 80”. These four trees are the surviving trees from our first planting in 1914. R.A. Symms started with 8 acres of fruit trees. Commitment to the land by the Symms family has sustained these trees for nearly 100 years. We take satisfaction in the fact that we have practiced “sustainable farming” for many years.
